SatLink System Benefits

Industry Standard, Future-Proof Investment
Customers benefit in multiple ways when they buy DVB-RCS satellite network solutions:
- DVB-RCS products are built to strict, open and proven specifications
- The resources of multiple suppliers, government agencies and research institutions are focused on continually advancing the technology
- Products are certified as conformant to the DVB-RCS standard by SatLabs, an independent testing body (see www.satlabs.org).

Bandwidth Efficiency & Network Performance - The SatLink system attains superior aggregate bandwidth efficiency and performance for a customer's IP  network through a combination of advanced technologies, including:
- Industry leading, standard modulation and FEC techniques
- Extensive bandwidth management and QoS mechanisms
- Network acceleration functions for TCP and web traffic
- Fast, efficient header compression and section packing which assures maximum filling of Layer 2 frames
- Smart, adaptive algorithms for link fade mitigation
- Essentially zero bandwidth consumption when a VSAT is idle.

ACM and Rain Fade Mitigation - Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM) is a powerful technique that allows for higher total bandwidth in a network, while also assuring higher minimum bandwidth per VSAT and better link availability.  This increase in efficiency and reliability is possible because the SatLink hub automatically adjusts the FEC rate and modulation to compensate for rain fades experienced by each different remote VSAT.

Advanced QoS & Traffic Engineering - For voice, interactive video, or even just multiple IP data applications, it is essential to have the most advanced bandwidth management and QoS mechanisms tailored to the satellite networking environment to get carrier-class quality.  SatLink does this with a combination of:
- Seven QoS groups providing separate optimized treatments for interactive voice, video conferencing and critical data, plus associated their signaling protocols, which minimizes delay and jitter while allow concurrent bulk data transfers and best-effort traffic
- Multiple separate queues for each QoS class on each link on each VSAT
- A rich set of methods for traffic classification and tuning dynamic bandwidth request processes
- VSAT Groups and QoS Groups each with their own bandwidth allocation and dynamic capacity sharing rules, ensuring no wasted resources under load
- Support for Virtual Network Operators (VNOs) so multiple customers/operators may share the same hub system with control over the QoS and bandwidth policies for their VSAT Groups and QoS Groups, within limits set by the network owner
- Support for VLANs, Network Address Translation (NAT) and VPN tunneling techniques
